Study Task 5 - Writing an Introduction

For this task I am going to write the introduction to my COP 2 essay, based on the proposals I worked on for Study Task 3 - Writing a Research Proposal.

The topic I would like to discuss is how characters within animation are perceived by the audience through aspects such as appearance, design, colours, gender (how male and female audiences perceive male and female characters), etc. This is important in animation as a character within an animation should be able to communicate who they are as a person through how they are illustrated/animated (e.g. hero, villain, mysterious, etc.). They should be appealing in a certain way to gain the audience's attention as appearance can factor in showing an inspiring character to the audience. It can be simple factors such as the sorts of facial expression they create within different situations according to how they would reacted with their given personality (dull, excited, angry, etc.). Within this essay I will demonstrate this importance of creating characters to present them appropriately to their personality, such as what emotions should be expected from them to make them appear believable. I will also include positive and negative issues such as how characters inspire a range of people and characters who are sexually represented by their gender and racial stereotypes (however they can be appropriate given the right storyline). How the appearance of these characters effect the audience. These will be subjective to the opinions of different people, how different groups of people react according to their own opinions (e.g. men and women) and my own personal opinions. To make my case I will use many opinions of writers in how they perceive characters within many mediums as well as my own experiences by using animations/characters I have seen. I will then use all of this information in order to create my conclusion.
